Distan Mataram gelar lomba kucing kesayangan meriahkan HUT RI

RI’s MoFA to repatriate body of Indonesian from Bangladesh next week

The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry stated that the body of an Indonesian killed in a fire on August 5 amid anti-government demonstrations in Bangladesh can be repatriated to Indonesia as early as next week.

The ministry’s Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities, Judha Nugraha, explained that his side and the Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka continue to strive to ensure the smooth repatriation of the body of the Indonesian with the initials DU, who was 50 years old.

“If possible, we will repatriate the body as soon as possible, on Monday or Tuesday next week,” Nugraha noted in a press conference in Jakarta on Friday.

He said that the process of repatriating the body is currently still being held up by the obligation to complete the administration process with the police, who are currently still focusing on restoring public security.

The repatriation of the body is also hampered by the fact that the operation of the hospital, where the deceased was evacuated, had not yet recovered due to the riots.

Meanwhile, Nugraha stated that the Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka ensured that the situation in Bangladesh was gradually improving, especially after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5—the main demand of the protesters— and fled from Bangladesh.

Nugraha said that apart from the Indonesian who died in the incident in the city of Jashore, all Indonesians registered as residing in Bangladesh were reported to be in good condition and safe.

However, the embassy continues to urge Indonesians who are still in Bangladesh to remain vigilant about their personal safety and avoid crowds in public places.

Nugraha remarked that the embassy is also preparing a safe house that Indonesians can go to when the situation worsens or if the need arises.

It was reported that an Indonesian died after being trapped in the hotel he was staying in the city of Jashore, northwest Bangladesh, on Monday (August 5).

“DU died from inhaling too much smoke because the hotel where he was staying caught fire in the midst of the riots,” according to a statement from the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Tuesday (August 6).

Baznas aims to restore Indonesia’s Islamic Solidarity Fund membership

Indonesia’s National Alms Agency (Baznas) is seeking to re-establish the country’s membership in the Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF).

To this end, Baznas Chairperson Noor Achmad visited the ISF headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday.

In a release, Achmad highlighted Indonesia’s previous contributions, including over 5 million US dollars in aid to Palestine channeled through Egypt and Jordan.

He expressed hope for a renewed partnership with the ISF to expand humanitarian assistance to the Muslim world.

Baznas aims to centralize Indonesia’s aid requests through the ISF, ensuring efficient coordination with government agencies and ISF member states.

Achmad expressed optimism about Indonesia regaining its seat on the ISF’s Permanent Council and actively contributing to the fund’s initiatives.

“Hopefully, with this visit, concrete cooperation between ISF and Baznas can be established to provide greater benefits and blessings to the people,” he remarked.

ISF Executive Director Muhammad bin Sulaiman Aba Al-Khail welcomed Baznas’ visit, acknowledging Indonesia’s past support as a member of the ISF Permanent Council from 1978 to 1980.

Established in 1974, the ISF is a subsidiary of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) dedicated to providing aid to Muslim communities worldwide.

Govt monitoring probe into stabbing of Indonesian in Philadelphia

The Indonesian Foreign Ministry is closely monitoring the case of an Indonesian citizen fatally stabbed by a fellow Indonesian in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Sunday (August 4).

Judha Nugraha, the ministry’s director for citizen and legal entity protection, stated that the Indonesian Consulate General in New York is cooperating with local police on the investigation.

“Indonesian Consulate General in New York is also assisting the victim’s family with repatriating her body and overseeing the legal proceedings,” he said at a press conference here on Friday.

Local authorities will conduct an autopsy on the victim’s body, identified with the initials RA, before repatriating her body to Tangerang, Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the perpetrator, identified with the initials LFP, is recovering from a leg wound.

Both individuals arrived in the U.S. on tourist visas last August but subsequently began working there.

While they shared a residence, their relationship is still under investigation.

Local media reported the stabbing of a 55-year-old woman in South Philadelphia.

Police believe the incident occurred within a home and have detained one person for questioning.

OJK to form Anti-Scam Center to combat online fraud

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) is developing an Anti-Scam Center to strengthen public safeguards against online fraud.

“We are still in the process of developing this center. It’s a collaborative effort involving government agencies and the financial services industry,” said OJK Chairman Mahendra Siregar on Friday.

Siregar explained that the OJK is currently crafting the optimal structure for the Anti-Scam Center, considering factors like participation, technology, and investment.

“Ideally, we want as many financial service institutions as possible to join the team to monitor emerging risks effectively,” he stated.

He noted that online fraud and transaction issues were handled individually by each financial institution.

“We had to address each case separately,” he pointed out.

With the Anti-Scam Center, the OJK aims to tackle multiple problems simultaneously.

“However, this requires the full support and participation of all financial service institutions and government agencies,” he emphasized.

Siregar also announced that online gambling account holders could be blacklisted by financial service institutions if found guilty.

“If account holders are proven to have violated the law, they can be blacklisted, but this process must be followed,” Siregar clarified.

To date, the OJK has ordered banks to block approximately 6,000 accounts linked to online gambling activities. However, the total transaction value from these accounts has not yet been assessed.

The OJK, together with banks and other stakeholders, remains committed to identifying bank accounts involved in online gambling.

Indonesia celebrates Independence Day with historic flag parade

Indonesia’s Presidential Secretariat invited the people to enliven the Parade of the Sacred Red and White Flag and the Proclamation Text as it journeys from Jakarta to Nusantara Capital City, which will begin on Saturday.

The parade is part of the commemoration of Independence Day on August 17, Presidential Secretariat Head Heru Budi Hartono said on Friday.

The parade will start at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta on August 10, heading to the Halim Perdanakusuma Airport. The participants will then fly to Nusantara in East Kalimantan.

The national flag will be raised during the Independence Day ceremony that will be held for the first time in the new capital city.

The parade is not only symbolic but also a tribute to the national flag, which is Indonesia’s symbol of struggle and sovereignty, Hartono said.

This event also aims to remind the people about the nation’s history and the Indonesian independence that was achieved with all might.

President Joko Widodo will lead the ceremony in Nusantara, while Vice President Ma’ruf Amin will lead the one in Jakarta.

Indonesia evacuates 926 citizens from Sudan amid conflict

Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has evacuated 926 citizens from Sudan following an artillery attack in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur.

“Around 40 others have chosen to stay in Sudan for work or family reasons,” Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi said in Jakarta on Friday.

She made the remarks after accompanying President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received a courtesy call from Sudanese Acting Foreign Minister Hussein Awad Ali Mohammed.

During the event, Jokowi expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by the Sudanese authorities during the evacuation of Indonesian citizens, according to Marsudi.

“The evacuation was challenging because it involved a large number of people, and the situation was very unfavorable,” she added.

The Sudanese authorities informed the Indonesian government that the Indonesian embassy, previously located in Khartoum, has been relocated to Port Sudan due to security concerns.

“We appreciated the Sudanese authority,” she said. “They said the Indonesian embassy is still in Khartoum, but for security reasons, it is currently operating from Port Sudan.”

The number of people fleeing Sudan has reached 4 million, she added.

Besides facing war tensions, Sudan is currently grappling with various health challenges, including the handling of monkeypox, dengue, malaria, and malnutrition.

Anadolu reported that there have been clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher since May 10, despite international warnings to end the fighting in the city, which serves as a humanitarian operations center for the vast western Darfur region.

Since mid-April last year, the Sudanese army and the RSF have been involved in a conflict that has claimed 18,800 lives and displaced around 10 million people, according to the United Nations.

Sepinggan Airport adds flights to serve Nusantara ahead of I-Day

Sepinggan International Airport in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, has increased flight options to accommodate growing passenger demand for the future capital, Nusantara, ahead of Indonesia’s Independence Day celebration.

“There are many slots for additional flights, from only 138 flights (per day) to 156 flights,” the airport’s general manager, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, told ANTARA on Friday.

In addition to adding flights, Sepinggan Airport has increased the number of workers to support smooth services.

Shahab said he hopes that in the future, the capacity of Sepinggan Airport can be one-third or even the same as that of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Banten, which serves air passengers traveling to Jakarta.

“Currently, (our capacity) is only 6 million passengers (per year),” he informed.

After year-long preparations, Sepinggan Airport is ready to support the upcoming Independence Day celebration in Nusantara on August 17, he affirmed.

The airport management has also carried out some improvement projects, such as renovating the toll gate area to the exit, preparing the parking building, carrying out painting work, and moving passenger flow.

“The most crucial thing is the flight area, we have paved the runway, prepared many aircraft, we have repaired all the apron areas and also the taxiway. So, in principle, there are no problems,” Shahab said.

Indonesia offers Olympic gold medallists with Rp6 bln bonus

The government has announced a potential bonus of Rp6 billion for each gold medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“The bonus for a gold medal could range from Rp5 billion to Rp6 billion, with the possibility of an increase,” stated Yohan, an expert staff member at the Youth and Sports Ministry, during a Jakarta press conference on Friday.

The final amount will be determined by President Joko Widodo. There is a strong likelihood that the bonuses for Indonesian Olympic medalists will be increased.

“Ultimately, the President will decide on the bonuses, as he typically does,” Yohan explained.

Indonesia has already secured two gold and one bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

With these two gold medals, Indonesia has climbed to 28th in the medal standings.

Weightlifter Nurul Akmal still has a chance to add to the country’s medal count in the women’s 81kg category.

Yohan expressed the government’s appreciation for all athletes competing in Paris, both medalists and those who fell short.

He emphasized the athletes’ dedication and the coaches’ hard work. The government aims to build upon this success for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
